Welcome our new Board members to the 2020/2021 fiscal year.
And business was as follows:

  1. Chandra Vesa vacated the Chairperson position and April Sinclair stepped forward as
Chairperson. Genevieve vacated position of Secretary and Jessica Pierre stepped
    forward.
  2. The amendment to the constitution was passed as follows:
Item # under section 10.1.k and 10.2.g Election and voting item to read, ”Conducting
business and voting at Board Meetings, Committee Meetings and Annual General
Meetings by electronic means is acceptable”

Thank you for voting in all of the business of the centre! Congratulations to the prize winners of the attendance draw. Since the COVID shut down there have been some additions to our team so it was nice to introduce several new team members by Zoom that you would not have seen otherwise because of the COVID policies commonly known as “curbside service”! It was nice that new parents got to meet everyone! We have a couple of educators on leave that we all hope to see back in the next few months.

November was a whirlwind of business meetings, preparing everything for the AGM, working with Andrea on the budget for 2021 and audit for 2020. We have almost completed everything! All of us are now focusing on holiday celebrations. The curriculum is the same but our actual celebrations will look differently this year. Our holiday luncheon with the children will go on as always but our community invitees will not be present. For 25 years the school age centre has always had a luncheon so that children could honour their teachers from their schools and all the support staff from Strathcona School. The Preschool/infant centre has always invited MaMawi, the Yw/Ymca and the WRHA team to join us for lunch. We also include other community members at both centres. That will not be the case this year but we are still planning something special.

As part of our curriculum we are doing a “Heroes project”. The children have already honoured our community firefighters and the health care nurses upstairs in Win Gardner Place with cards and gifts of appreciation. We are in the process of creating a Christmas hamper for a friend of Splash and a great community volunteer, a package for the construction workers who are building our new centre and something for the hard working team at NECRC. There will be also more kindness spread over the next few months. Do you have any suggestions of heroes in our community? Please let me know. Lesley@splashcares.ca

Reflecting on 2020 let me say that this year was the great leveller! It showed us what matters most and that’s people! Yes people, together, helping each other, caring for each other and sharing love and kindness. This year Splash has learned to do things in new ways and when faced with challenges we consistently rose to the top and succeeded. As always we stayed connected to the community and focused on community wellness. This year we grew bigger gardens and did more acts of kindness. As we all move forward in the coming year let’s do it together, maybe in a different way, but always remembering our Mission and Values and maintaining healthy relationships! It’s the Splash way! Peace be with you.
